Confessions of Rocio Garcia
- A chance to get to know the techniques and inspiration of Rocio Garcia's paintings
Over a series of months, Corina Matamoros maintained a long conversation with the Cuban artist Rocío García on her life and work, in order to understand her singular vision of reality. The result is a broad range of confessions that go from chosen subjects – mainly social, erotic and political – and the influence of comics on her narrative style of painting. As her storyboard paintings demonstrate, García is a visual writer with an extraordinary technique. This volume includes her last works: El Thriller, Very, very Light and very oscuro. (Un policía con Alzheimer), El Castigador, El regreso de Jack el Castigador and The Mission. Text in English and Spanish. Collections related to this publication are in the Brownstone Foundation, France; Havana Galerie, Zurich, Switzerland (courtesy of Beatrice Liakowski); Cheng Xin Dong Space for Contemporary Art Gallery, Beijing, China; Seit Gallery, Tokyo, Japan; Museum of the Repin Academy of Arts, St Petersburg, Russia; and Antonio Moretti Cuseri, Milano, Italy. A temporary exhibition will be held in Portugal, 2017; precise date and place TBC.
