My Ashmolean Discovery Book

What connects an octopus jar to the minotaur? And what is Powhatan’s mantle? How did an Egyptian mummy get into the museum? It’s not enough to take a youngster an exhibition. The idea is to inspire them to think about how works ended up there and about the stories behind the artefacts they see.

This new children’s activity book inspires kids with hands-on activities ranging from imaginative drawings suggestions, to designing coins, to piecing together Samurai armour, to mending a jar using stickers. Published to coincide with the re-opening and expansion of the oldest museum England, Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum, the book is appropriate for youngsters ages 8 to 11. A newly-expanded Ashmolean with double the exhibition space and a handsome education center opens in November of 2009.
