Full Description

London’s cinema history stretches across the city. At its peak in the 1940s, most neighborhoods had several cinemas within walking distance. Those days are over, but many of London’s lost cinemas are still visible – if you know where to look. Combined with evocative photography, London’s Lost Cinemas tells the fascinating tales of these former picture palaces, which, while their projectors may be long gone, still loom large on our high streets.

About the Author

Nigel Smith is a London tour guide and film-enthusiast. His project Memory Palaces tells the stories of cinemas across the city, past and present. He co-runs the Tufnell Park Film Club and is part of the team that produces BBC Radio 4’s Screenshot.
