Just arriving in bookstores around the world is the new book, Zaha Hadid Architects: Redefining Architecture & Design. When the world learnt of the untimely passing of Zaha Hadid in March 2016, IMAGES was working with the trail-blazing architect and her world-leading firm to publish a book in our Leading Architects series. We collaborated with the firm to bring the book to publication, although in a different format to that which we originally envisioned for the book.

This spectacular monograph looks into the innovative works of Zaha Hadid, whose creative genius captured the collective imagination, influencing designers to challenge the perceived limits of aesthetics and engineering. Her sudden death shocked the world, inspiring a commitment to uphold her passion to create unique built spaces. This all-new book is the first book published on the famed architect since her death.

Today her firm maintains its commitment to her ideals of fluidity, and the works presented in this volume showcase the transformative, cultural, corporate and residential spaces that entered into complete synchronicity with their surrounding environment.

Born in Iraq, Dame Zaha Hadid studied architecture in London and became one of the most renowned and revered architects in the world. After founding Zaha Hadid Architects in 1979, Hadid received the highest accolades for her sophisticated, signature projects, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the Stirling Prize, and the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects; and she featured on Forbes’ list of the ‘World’s Most Powerful Women’.

With almost 1000 projects across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, Hadid’s outstanding contribution remains at the cutting-edge, evidenced as you gaze inside this wonderful book.

Another fascinating monograph reaching bookstores now is HYLA Architects: Modern Singapore Living from IMAGES’ Master Architect Series, This splendid title focuses on the sensitivities of famous Singapore firm HYLA Architects, headed by Han Lok Kwan. The tropical city state of Singapore hosts a design scene that is prolific in terms of output, but also synonymous with developing houses that respond to heat and humidity and hustle and bustle, to create peaceful oases where the inhabitants are shielded within from the city’s continuous hum.

The houses showcased in this book bring a timelessness and modernity that reflect the region’s culture and society. “We live in a densely populated world where statements are being made wherever we look. Architecture, sprouting taller, bigger, louder, are vying for our attention. Where, then, can the people of a busy city like Singapore find their hidden haven? For those at HYLA Architects, that escape is home.” [From the book’s introduction]

The houses designed by the firm are often “punctuated with light and blended with nature”, perfectly complementing the Singaporean lifestyle which is casual and relaxed. Take a peak inside the pages to see how the spaces are “fluid and flow from one to the other”.

We are very excited to see an advance copy of The Classical American House, the first title in IMAGES’ Classical Architecture Collection series. This exquisite book is packed with inspirational photography of stunning works by the best classicist practitioners in the United States, including Charles Hilton Architects, Franck & Lohsen Architects, Hamady Architects, John Milner Architects, Ken Tate Architect, Smith Architectural Group, and Timothy Bryant Architect. The Classical American House will be followed by two other house-focused books, Texas Modern: Redefining Houses in the Lone Star State, as well as The American House: 100 Contemporary Houses— the first title in IMAGES’ high-profile series, the Residential Architecture Collection.
