Artemisia Gentileschi has been the subject of much attention in recent decades. Research dedicated to her has, however, often returned a stereotyped and reductive image of the artistic universe and personality of the painter. The professional figure of Gentileschi, who was able to move with great success in what we now call the art system, finally finds new dignity. Unpublished attributions from private collections are flanked by the painter’s masterpieces, reconstructing the framework of the international commissions that consecrated her as a protagonist of the European Baroque, in the most complete and up-to-date volume dedicated to the artist. The innovative charge of language and the exceptional nature of Artemisia’s iconographic choices reveal the documented interests and literary, scientific and musical frequentations that the painter skillfully cultivated in every city that recorded her passage.

“The collection is an extraordinary one, and the catalog will be of interest to Johnsonians as well as book collectors.” —The Johnsonian News Letter

“It is elegantly and humanely presented and handsomely produced, and will enrich the field of 18th-century studies.” — The Book Collector

“…it presents a cornucopia of information that creates a conversation between its numerous entries.”— The Colophon Bookshop

The Age of Johnson: The Library of Loren and Frances Rothschild brings together the most comprehensive collection of rare books and autograph works in private hands of the 18th-century literary giant Samuel Johnson, together with extensive collections of the works of the other principal authors of the period long-known as the Age of Johnson— including James Boswell, Edmund Burke, Frances Burney, Oliver Goldsmith, Hester (Thrale) Piozzi, Alexander Pope, and Jonathan Swift.

An introduction to each of these authors provides information placing the author in his or her historical and literary context, and the descriptive entries for each of the over 900 individual manuscripts, letters, and rare books records bibliographical information, significant facts, and critical information about the work recorded.

The individual entries, when viewed in the aggregate, survey and illuminate the breadth and depth of the literary and intellectual canon of the authors of the Age of Johnson, illuminate their relationships and their works to one another. The text taken as a whole demonstrates why Samuel Johnson, as an individual and as an author, defined the era long named for him.

A 1000-piece puzzle featuring the artwork of Umar Rashid.

Did the Battle of Malibu actually happen? Probably not. OK, definitely not. But also maybe it did? LA based artist Umar Rashid has given the question a lot of thought and decided that it would be cool if it had happened so for all intents and purposes it did.

And if the Chumash, Tongva, Gabrielino, and other indigenous LA types had in fact gone on to fight the Spanish, armed with a little red Corvette driven by Black Jesus, then, well, we’d have liked to see that. So here it is. It happened.

Ken Gun Min’s paintings explore intimacy, masculinity, and representation across cultures, while employing a mixture of western-style oil paints, Korean pigments, embroidery, and beading on raw canvas. Often featuring nude and queer-coded men, his portraits and lush landscapes concoct fanciful idylls where longing, melancholy, and euphoria manifest irrespective of expectations imposed on people in daily life.

This 1000-piece puzzle features his work.

1000 Piece Puzzle featuring the artwork of Alec Egan.

The pleasures of Alec Egan’s Bouquet with Cupcake (dessert) are pretty simple. Flowers are beautiful and he paints them beautifully. And cupcakes are delicious. There’s really no need to overthink this, even though Alec certainly has – over and over again throughout his floral patterned, Laura Ashley inspired, body of work. This bouquet doesn’t need much in the way of unpacking. It’s just that nice to look at. Also, that cupcake is making us hungry.

“… a remarkable series of photographs of people posed with the various vehicles they drive.” — The Guardian

Show me your vehicle and I’ll tell you who you are. For his new photo book Homo Mobilis, photographer Martin Roemers traveled the world armed with a large white backdrop, a camera, and one simple question: “Would you pose with your vehicle for me?” The result is an eye-opening collection of images that raises pressing questions about our current global society. “What about the environmental impact of our addiction to oil and engines?” but also: “Does your choice of vehicle express something about your identity?” At the same time, Roemers’ images almost instantly bring a smile to your face. The book is also interspersed with behind-the-scenes shots that clearly reveal the scale and ambition of this project.

Inferno & Paradiso is a powerful photographic and editorial project that confronts the fragile tension between horror and joy, pain and hope. Conceived by artist Alfredo Jaar and featuring works by 20 leading photojournalists, each contributor presents two images: one depicting the darkest aspects of human suffering, the other capturing a moment of pure, often unexpected joy. Originally created in response to Jaar’s experience of the Rwandan genocide, the project resists apathy and indifference, challenging the spectator to engage with the complex emotional spectrum of our contemporary condition. With an immersive slide installation and a richly layered book, the work explores how images bear witness to reality while also asking fundamental questions about the possibility of happiness in a fractured world. Drawing inspiration from Dante and humanist theology, Inferno & Paradiso becomes a secular pilgrimage through human experience, paying homage to the moral courage of those who testify through images.

More than 40 years ago, two friends, united by a passion for the decorative arts, embarked on an exploration of the unique jewels of India. They were motivated by the everyday jewels of the people in the villages—to discover the sources of their inspiration and to unravel the complex ritual of adornment that resulted in ornaments being fabricated for every part of the body, from the top of the head to the toes. The result was the creation of the Amrapali Collection of Indian Jewellery, one of the largest collections of pastoral silver jewellery in the world.

The manifold communities that this collection represents come from different religions, with linguistic differences and diverse cultural sensibilities, but the land that the jewels encompass is geographically contiguous. They exhibit the amazing technical expertise of simple gold- and silversmiths. This volume presents the jewels in all their glory, and as a visual language communicating design, aesthetics, tradition and, above all, the artistic expression of adorning the body.

Unfolding across Asia, Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, the book covers a distance of over 267,000 kilometers, documented from early 2023 to late 2025.
