“A new sort of literary gumption arrived on the scene with Andrew Jefford; a powerful blend of science and poetry. Here is a writer who does his interviews, delves deep into motives and methods, and then lets fly with whatever imagery he finds winging by.” Hugh Johnson (2019)
Poet, philosopher, author, radio presenter and journalist, Andrew Jefford lives in France; but buried deep in one wine country what does he miss most about the rest? The answer: “Drinking young port. It’s the wine drinker’s equivalent of zorbing, wing-walking, base-jumping … you won’t fully understand it unless you have tasted it young, in its ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ stage, when it comes hurtling out of the glass and puts the screamers on you…”
Andrew is the ideal companion for anyone wine-curious. In this collection of his essays, opinions and articles he shares his fascinating observations from half a century of discovery. For Andrew, wine should be listened to and admired, wherever it comes from; old-school pretensions turned on their head; style-points disdained; stellar prices dismissed; questions asked…

High jewelry has entered the 21st century with a spring in its step. Design has been as diverse as it has been innovative. The technical advances of the ’90s and the new materials being used by this exuberant group of independent jewelers have helped pave the way to breaking down preconceived ideas of high jewelry. Some enjoy the adventure of finding the rarest of gemstones that speak to them, others seek to tell a tale or relay a secret message to the wearer and thus the onlooker. They are artists, engineers and adventurers; and, above all, they are passionate about their world, using only the best workmanship wherever it is to be found. From the great JAR, to James de Givenchy and Nicholas Varney in the West, and Michelle Ong, Wallace Chan and Bhagat in the East, 21st-Century Jewellery Designers: An Inspired Style is an exploration into the designers’ worlds. Interviews reveal the designers’ inspirations and passions, their signature materials, designing processes, and how their personalities influence their designs. Designers featured: JAR (France); Kaoru Kay Akihara / Gimel (Japan); Walid Akkad (France/Lebanon); Lorenz Bäumer (France); Bhagat (India); Sevan Biçakçi (Turkey); Luz Camino (Spain); Wallace Chan (China); Edmond Chin / Etcetera (China); Lydia Courteille (France); Michele della Valle (Italy/Switzerland); Patrice Fabre (France); James de Givenchy / Taffin (USA); Vicente Gracia (Spain); Hemmerle (Germany); Anna Hu (USA/Taiwan); Michelle Ong / Carnet (China); Suzanne Syz (Switzerland); Nicholas Varney (USA); Stephen Webster (UK); Dickson Yewn / Yewn Heritage (China).

This volume guides readers through the exquisite world of the Master-of-Nets Garden in Suzhou. Part of the acclaimed series curated by leading scholars, it employs the “stories-routes-appreciation” framework to unlock this classical landscape. Celebrated as the “Garden by Night” for its enchanting Kunqu performances and interplay of light, it embodies the poetic ideal of a “Fisherman’s Retreat.” The book explores how, within less than ten mu, the garden achieves profound spatial complexity and the literati ideal of “small yet complete.” It traces the garden’s journey from its Southern Song origins to its modern resonance, including its notable replication as the Astor Court at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Through scholarly insights and engaging visuals, this work reveals the garden as a masterpiece of condensed artistry and a living expression of Jiangnan’s cultural sophistication.

“Coolness” – on the one hand, a meaningless buzzword today; on the other, a self-assured, late-modern attitude and behavioral strategy with rebellious roots against an unjust world.
But what does the word “cool” mean, and what does it mean to “be cool”? How does “coolness” become tangible? What makes coolness so appealing? Where do these concepts come from? What facets do we encounter upon closer inspection?
Michael Köckritz explores these questions with a holistic perspective, researching and collaging history and stories, speaking with interdisciplinary experts about backgrounds and developments, manifestations and criteria, and identifying with them the icons and personalities that so strikingly shape our modern image of coolness. The result is a journey of discovery that is as entertaining and stimulating as it is creative, exploring the facets of a timeless phenomenon of longing.
This reflective, precise examination of the concepts of “cool” and “coolness” becomes an impressive plea for coolness as a timelessly modern, emotional experience and a self-assured “attitude” that thrives on the appeal of rejecting bourgeois norms and non-conformity, while simultaneously captivating with a distinct aesthetic dimension. This revised new edition of the bestseller broadens the perspective and deepens the exploration of style and culture as defining dimensions of coolness.
A major figure well known to the French public, Vincent van Gogh is today one of the most famous, most reproduced, and most studied artists. This monograph offers a rich and vivid reading of his work, placing his paintings and self-portraits at the heart of a journey marked by the tension between light and inner turmoil. From The Potato Eaters to Sunflowers, from The Bedroom in Arles to The Starry Night, the book highlights the work and the decisive moments in the life of an artist who profoundly transformed modern painting, and provides readers with the keys to understand its full depth.
Between Paris, Amsterdam, and New York, this volume sheds light on the artist’s masterpieces and offers a clear, elegant, and accessible interpretation of his art.
One of the most representative artists in the field of abstract art in Shanghai and even throughout China, Huang Yuanqing has developed a uniquely distinctive visual philosophy of his paintings. This book features 113 representative works. On the surface, they may appear close to Western action painting, but in fact they embody the rhythmic logic of wild cursive script (kuangcao) from traditional Chinese calligraphy. In particular, the seemingly casual brushstrokes on the canvas are actually a tightly controlled form of improvisation. Moreover, each work requires repeated layering—sometimes over several months—achieving a dynamic balance between improvisation and continuous revision. Huang Yuanqing’s practice is rooted in the tradition of calligraphy, integrating seal carving, music, and other artistic forms. His works at times emphasize color and space, at other moments lean toward writing and graffiti, yet he has never abandoned calligraphic creation independent of his paintings. The result is a new form of abstract art that fuses various script styles as its structural backbone, with color and space as its flesh—achieving a cross-dimensional integration of two different art forms: painting and calligraphy.
“Moonwatch Only is certainly one of the best books ever written about a single watch model.” – William Massena – Timezone.com
“It is an indescribable reference work and a true must-have for every Speedmaster collector.” – Forbes
“This book sets a new standard. Not only for books on the Omega Speedmaster, but for watch books in general. I’ve never seen anything like it, and believe me when I tell you that I could fill an impressive sized wall with books on watches. Authors of other books or publishers should take a look at Moonwatch Only as well to see how it should be done.” – Robert Jan Broer – FratelloWatches
“The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional – the Moonwatch – has done things that no other timepiece has done and it’s been worn in places that only a few human beings have been.” – Captain Eugene Cernan, ‘Last man on the moon’
There are very few timepieces in the world that deserve a definitive and comprehensive book such as this one. The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is one of them. Initially designed for automobile racing teams and engineers, the Omega Speedmaster embarked on a very different trajectory when NASA chose it to accompany astronauts heading for the Moon in 1965. Its involvement in the space adventure has propelled the Moonwatch to the top of the list of celebrated timepieces. After years of research and observation, the authors present a complete panorama of the Moonwatch in a systematic work that is both technical and attractive, making it the inescapable reference book for this legendary watch. This fourth edition has been enriched with much new material and illustrations.
This publication is the first comprehensive survey of the most beautiful and significant examples of Central Asian suzani textiles, gathered from public and private collections worldwide.
The aesthetic merit and cultural significance of these textiles are widely appreciated by specialists and non-specialists alike, making suzani amongst the most popular, collectible textiles. No comprehensive publication has yet been published because suzanis are not well-represented in museum collections; many of the top examples are in unpublished private collections; and suzani were customarily preserved as family heirlooms, often stored in dowry chests and therefore not readily available in the secondary markets of 19th-century Central Asia.
The book features 220 of the most important suzanis known, along with art historical and scholarly essays, drawn from an extensive, previously unpublished, private image database assembled starting in the 1970s. Most of the included suzani textiles have been examined first-hand.
Faces have been Belgian artist Isabelle Scheltjens’ fascination ever since she was a girl. It is the face as a canvas for someone’s personality that has never ceased to captivate Scheltjens, as well as the duality between the apparent perfection of a face from afar and the beautiful imperfect reality of a face up close. The artist started her practice making mosaic-like portraits from small fused pieces of glass, increasing her mastery of color theory along the way. More recently, Isabelle Scheltjens has taken to creating sculptures in glass crush and marble as well. These sculptures play with elongation and proportion, offering a distorted and unexpected new perspective on ‘the face’. Isabelle Scheltjens, a book celebrating a decade of artistic growth and merit, illustrates the emotional charge of the artist’s works and the appeal of Scheltjens’ work as it travels to homes in every corner of the world.

The Ralph Hänig Collection is without doubt one of the most significant collections of 18th-century Meissen porcelain today, commissioned by the kings of Poland and Electors of Saxony August II and August III, either for their own use or as diplomatic gifts to other royal houses in Europe. A large part also comprises personal orders by noblemen who sought to grace themselves with this new status symbol—among them Elector Clemens August of Cologne and the Prussian king Friedrich II.
This new catalog of the collection, which also includes Böttger stoneware and Böttger porcelain featuring painted coats-of-arms, presents all significant styles of decoration from Meissen’s early period as well as heraldic marks. It thus offers the reader the opportunity to gain vivid insight into a key episode of Saxon-Polish history.

Real Life is introduced and curated by Wells Fray-Smith. It is published in collaboration with Gallery Sofie Van de Velde on the occasion of the group exhibition Real Life. The publication gathers works by Ilse D’Hollander, Lois Dodd, Christopher Colm Morrin, Jesse Murry, Heidrun Rathgeb, Peter Shear, Trevor Shimizu, and Frank Walter, presenting a dialog across generations and geographies around painting’s enduring engagement with lived experience. The book explores how these artists, much like Ilse D’Hollander herself, use paint to address reality in its most porous, poetic, and capacious sense. Whether working through figuration or abstraction, their practices blur the boundaries between pigment and picture, illusion and observation, the tangible and the transcendental. At its heart Ilse D’Hollander’s quiet yet profound vision. Through sketchbooks and paintings from 1988 onward, she offered intimate glimpses of her daily surroundings — a window frame, a stairway, a cat — each rendered with the same precision and restraint that define her painting. These drawings were not preparatory studies but complete reflections on perception itself, acts of seeing that transformed the ordinary into the contemplative.
In this unique project, Ai Weiwei pays tribute to two poets who shaped a remarkable cultural bridge: his father, the Chinese poet Ai Qing, and the Belgian poet Émile Verhaeren. Ai Qing was the first to translate Verhaeren’s poetry into Chinese, introducing the Belgian writer to readers in China. Out of deep admiration for his father’s legacy, Ai Weiwei accepted the invitation to create an exhibition and catalogue exploring the bond between these two literary figures. This book is a moving homage that connects poetry, memory, and artistic heritage across cultures.
