Kilims from Mazandaran are true masterpieces of woven minimalism. From stripes to fields of pure and deep color, these textiles represent a singular kind of artistic abstraction.
The women who authored these pieces made them for their own use. In wool and silk, they created works of textile art using the basic building blocks of all hand weaving: warp and weft. The grid thus created is at the same time rigid and flexible; it lends itself to geometric pattern, but also allows for feathery ikat-like effects and multidimensional color expression.
This book is a sumptuous visual celebration of a largely unknown modern art form. Expert writers add context to the pieces by contemplating subjects such as 20th-century minimalism, materiality and the nature of color.
Designer Andy Altmann has been pursuing an obsession with typographic oddities for more than 30 years; and he’s not necessarily interested in the kind of thing you might expect. He delights in the weird and wonderful and finds inspiration in the ordinary. At last, he has organized his typographic hits and misses in a 400-page, whopper of a scrapbook. Conceived and edited by Andy, typo* is a cornucopia of curiosities. Between its covers you’ll find everything from Swiss minimalism to Victorian street signs, from soap packets to magazine covers, from high art to the handmade. Essential is too small a word for this book: every graphic designer and typographer should have a copy. Keep it by the keyboard or refer to it secretly when stuck for an idea, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it.
*typo (noun): an error (as of spelling) in typed or typeset material; (abbr.) typography or typographer
César (1921-1998), an emblematic sculptor considered provocative by the critics of his day, achieved fame during his lifetime and stands as a major figure of the New Realist movement, alongside Yves Klein, Arman and Niki de Saint Phalle. The creator of a wide-ranging body of work, he is known for his human imprints (one of his Pouce sculptures stands in the Tuileries Gardens) and for his Compressions, the most famous of which is the César trophy awarded at the French film awards. He represented France at the Venice Biennale in 1994, a mark of his international recognition. Twenty years after his death, the Centre Pompidou staged a retrospective, gathering together more than a hundred of his works from collections around the world. This book is a reissue, expanded with 150 new catalog entries, of an edition conceived in close collaboration with the artist in 1994; together with the author, he carefully defined, among other things, the layout, titles and dating of the works. Faithful to César’s own wishes, this new edition is the first volume of a trilogy of catalog raisonnés, the essential reference for understanding his work. This first volume traces the early years of his career – his bestiaries and his work in iron – through to his first Compressions in the 1960s, richly illustrated with portraits of the artist and excerpts from interviews that bring readers close to his creative process.

Such is the case with their new book …” — NouvelleBox

“… these pages promise to inspire knowledgeable collectors while taking their expertise to the next level.” — Gem and Jewel
“Nineteenth-century jewelry buffs can learn all they ever wanted about the crafts, themes, makers and clients central to the period.” — Wall Street Journal
From the authors of Understanding Jewellery, considered to be one of the most important and frequently referenced books on jewelry ever produced, Age of Grandeur focuses solely on the 19th century, bringing with it over 250 new color photographs of jewelry from this most celebrated era.
Taking the reader through the history of jewelry over the decades, we learn how and why particular styles came about and then changed. From Napoleonic classicism and Victorian sentimental and memorial jewelry, through the Romantic era and its penchant for naturalism, the Gothic style and recreation of the Renaissance and, finally, the unique designs of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau periods, this comprehensive study enlightens and fascinates. With stunning photographs accompanying us on our journey through the decades, creating a rich visual history that brings the text to life, this book remains the essential bible on 19th-century jewelry.
“Organisers say it is an unprecedented way to organise an exhibition: while some works and themes remain constant in each city, others change and each museum tells its own story. Perfect, then, for a movement that always aimed to subvert traditional artistic norms.” — The Guardian
“… This blend of scholarly insight and artistic exploration makes the catalogue not only visually stunning but intellectually enriching.” — Artlyst
The defining book for the centenary of Surrealism.
From September 2024 to January 2025, the Centre Pompidou will celebrate the 100th anniversary of André Breton’s Surrealist Manifesto. For the next two years, their unprecedented Surrealist exhibition will tour the art galleries of the world, accompanied by this special catalog.
Perhaps more than any other artistic movement, Surrealism had a cataclysmic effect on the modern mind, changing forever the way we think about experiencing the world. By rejecting the gross linearity that typified several centuries of preceding artworks, the legendary Surrealists – Magritte, Ernst, Carrington, Dalí, Tanning and so many others – reached beyond the façade of that which is patently visible and found something more.
Like the great works that fill its pages, Surrealism offers a departure from singletrack thinking, with a multi-directional layout and an uninhibited design. Featuring original essays from leading academics and excerpts from the Surrealist Manifesto itself, this stands among the most essential Surrealist catalogs ever published.

A great player doesn’t necessarily make the best coach. So why should a hard-driving professional automatically be an effective manager?
As an executive, you juggle challenges on a daily basis. What deserves your attention, and what doesn’t? You want to delegate, but you find some tasks difficult to let go of. You see the differences between your employees, but you also want to treat everyone equally. And hiring new employees – how do you decide?
Servant-Leadership offers a clear and workable method to get started, taking inspiration from a surprising source: the natural, shared leadership within a wolf pack. No pedantic models, but usable guidelines that are tough on results but tender on people.
‘Roeland’s ‘Servant-Leadership’ masterfully blends practical advice with philosophy, offering leaders tangible ways to effect change. It’s rich in ‘learning moments’ – opportunities that challenge and grow us. This book is essential for those on the servant leadership path, keen on making a real difference. Highly recommended.’
– Garry Ridge, Chairman Emeritus former CEO of WD-40 Company, The Culture Coach and Founder of The Learning Moment
‘Servant-Leadership provides the kind of tangible, actionable roadmap for leadership that I wish I’d had when I started out as an entrepreneur. Its real-world examples show the value of leading with authenticity and what can happen when leaders consider the positive impact that compassionate leadership can have on their people.’
– Kristen Hadeed, Founder and CEO of Student Maid Speaker, and author of Permission To Screw Up
Rietveld Schröder House: A Biography of the House tells the story of the iconic house and its creators, Truus Schröder (1889–1985) and Gerrit Rietveld (1888–1964). The construction of the house, the designs by ‘Schröder & Rietveld Architects’, the war years, the renovations and the many family parties: this richly illustrated publication builds up a picture of the colorful life of the idiosyncratic Rietveld Schröder House.
In addition to many previously unpublished photographs, drawings, designs and letters, the book provides in-depth insight into Rietveld and Schröder’s collaboration and their shared ambition to radically change traditional (interior) architecture. The research by authors Natalie Dubois and Jessica van Geel also convincingly shows that Truus Schröder’s role was far greater than previously assumed. As a gifted designer, Schröder was much more than Gerrit Rietveld’s ‘muse’. Her creative vision proved crucial to their joint projects.
With its bespoke design by Irma Boom, this publication is a tribute to the world-famous house built in 1924 that continues to inspire today. Rietveld Schröder House: A Biography of the House is an accessible and essential reference work for lovers of modern architecture, art history and revolutionary daring.
This publication coincides with the centenary of the Rietveld Schröder House, and is issued in collaboration with Centraal Museum Utrecht.

Sculptures of Stones by Ronny Delrue depict female statues that are either made of bricks or covered with masonry-like patterns. They form a critical riposte to the heroic male statues of former leaders that are scattered around our cities. Furthermore, the forms also broaden our prior knowledge of the depiction of figures in the public sphere. Sculptures of Stones shows drawing to be a form of spontaneous expression. It offers an alternative to the all-pervasive means of instant communication that govern the world today, namely digital tools and social media systems. Delrue’s drawings are both action and representation. Unlike the electronic devices, a drawing redeems the option of an unmediated, direct action and reflection in and on the world. It re-positions the function of the artist as a free, sovereign subject, who touches the world and is ready to participate and influence history.

“Yungblud is like nothing you’ve seen before. That is, unless you’ve seen a smiley punk/alt rocker from Doncaster, UK who wears pink socks, black-lipstick, and a skirt, plays a mean guitar, has an endless amount of energy, and an interesting aura of sex appeal. Then, and only then, can you say you’ve seen someone like Yungblud.” – musicinminnesota.com
YUNGBLUD. A striking new musical voice has emerged for Gen-Z. Political, provocative and impassioned, Yungblud has in the space of three years become one of the UK’s most recognizable artists through his unique blend of pop, punk and emo music – gaining one of the most die-hard fanbases on the planet in the process.
From 21st Century Liability, where nothing was sacred – gun violence, psychosis, sex, drugs and suicide – to his sophomore album Weird!, an exploration of oddity and self-acceptance, YUNGBLUD challenges our zeitgeist as much as he channels it.
This is the first fully authorized book, featuring photographs by his friend and closest collaborator Tom Pallant.
Featuring an amazing selection of rare and unseen photographs, All My Friends Have Deserted charts Yungblud’s journey from late 2019 as he toured his debut album across the world, right through releasing his second album during a global pandemic, scoring his first UK #1, returning triumphantly to Reading and Leeds festival mainstage and culminating in his biggest ever headline show, a sold-out Alexandra Palace in London.
All My Friends Have Deserted shows YUNGBLUD as a man of multitudes: dominating the stage, screaming into the mic, laughing behind-the-scenes, enjoying quiet creative moments and pulling faces at the camera. The vicious energy of his performances carries onto the page. The result is a rollercoaster of a photo-essay that carries readers on a journey through the highs and lows of Gen-Z’s most essential new rock star.
“My generation is over being divided. Being divided is an old concept that is rapidly becoming obsolete. We are opinionated. We are full of contradictions. That’s the beauty of it. Our intention is to make this world equal. No matter what size you are, what shape you are, what colour you are, what sexuality you are…”
Underpinning it all is the message of empathy. Those who his lyrics resonate with are not alone. Authentic and electric, rebellious and irreverent, yet still utterly human, YUNGBLUD is the new face of punk. Here he presents himself through a series of exclusive and unseen photographs, taken by his friend and closest collaborator, photographer Tom Pallant.
This book focuses on the floor covering traditions of Kashmir, one of the two distinct regions that constitute the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir has been historically famous as a producer of the world-renowned and esteemed pashmina shawl. However, the region also produces a variety of floor coverings that are an essential part of its households and its handicraft industry. The variety of floor coverings produced differs in design, their mode of production, the raw material used and the region of production.
Kaleen-weaving is a long-standing tradition, dating back to over 600 years, while floor coverings such as the wagoo mats trace their antiquity to the Indus Valley Civilization. This book intends to serve as a lasting narrative of the rich material culture of the Kashmir region. It identifies significant cultural units in design to showcase the age-old craft traditions in production that are integral to regional tangible and intangible cultural practices. It enables an understanding of the cultural context of Kashmir that has a strong influence on the production of floor coverings, lending a unique identity to its kaleen, which is otherwise often associated with Persian carpets. The author has used descriptive, thematic and ethnographic modes of analysis to highlight instances of carpet-weaving traditions that resonate distinctly with Kashmir.
Well-researched and richly illustrated, the book will appeal to those interested in textiles, carpets and indigenous tangible and intangible cultures and craft traditions.

“If you’re interested in celebrity culture, black & white, and of course any of the other work of Dafydd Jones, this comes highly recommended.” — Amateur Photography
Hollywood: Confidential is the latest collection of beautifully timed photos from bestselling society photographer Dafydd Jones. Formerly of Tatler and Vanity Fair, Jones is a serial capturer of intimate moments during high-society functions. As famous Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter puts it, when it comes to party photographers, ‘Dafydd Jones is the sniper’s sniper – the best of the best.’
On numerous occasions in the 1990s and 2000s, Jones turned his lens to the faces of Hollywood with all his usual impudence, as they mingled and danced at private events in the Hollywood Hills, Oscar-night parties and awards ceremonies. The result is a rare thing – photographs that convey the underlying personalities of the world’s most public personas.
Following on from England: The Last Hurrah and New York: High Life / Low Life, this is an essential portrait of celebrity culture from behind the scenes, featuring the likes of Anna Nicole Smith, Tom Cruise, Prince, Winona Ryder, Tony Curtis, Oprah, Nicholas Cage and more.

“Modest though he is, Dafydd’s photographs will endure for having perfectly captured a society on the brink of decline.” – Country & Townhouse podcast
“The New York book is an evocative historical document, brimming with nostalgia and menace.” – Hannah Marriott, The Guardian
“The best party photographers, and their numbers are few, are like snipers… Dafydd Jones is the sniper’s sniper – the best of the best.” Graydon Carter, foreword from New York: High Life / Low Life
“Dafydd’s brilliant evocation of a time and a class only seem more potent today, when we know that so many of the moneyed twits in his ’80s portfolio ended up running the country, as they always have” – Tina Brown, The New Yorker
Addressing one of the urgent issues of climate crisis and environmental pollution, this book explores our relationship to the sea: how we live alongside it, our bodily relationship to it, its role in the creation of a connected, global society and, perhaps most critically, the threat we pose to it.
Through a broad selection of works by contemporary international artists, Can the Sea Survive Us? responds to the urgent need to resuscitate our seas. While the oceanic environment is essential to all life, its vulnerability to human action is highlighted by an ever-increasing loss of biodiversity. This book prompts the reader to imagine a future in which collective human behavior can mitigate the effects of climate change. As ocean temperatures reach record highs, it is clear that time is not on our side. This ambitious project aspires to accelerate climate awareness and deliver the critical climate action we urgently need.
