Don’t miss this very special big screen presentation of the spectacular 1963 fantasy classic JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, featuring a live post-film Q&A with Vanessa Harryhausen, daughter of legendary visual effects artist Ray Harryhausen, and Connor Heaney, the Collections Manager for the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation! Copies of Vanessa’s book, Ray Harryhausen: Titan of Cinema, will be available for sale and signing following the Q&A (cash sales only, $40 per copy).
The classic Greek myth is gloriously brought to life through Ray Harryhausen’s magnificent special effects in the thrilling adventure tale, Jason and the Argonauts! It’s the story of Jason (Todd Armstrong), a fearless sailor and explorer, who returns to the kingdom of Thessaly after a 20-year voyage to make his rightful claim to the throne. But to do so, Jason must first find the magical Golden Fleece. He selects a crew and with the help of Hera, Queen of the Gods, sets sail in search of the Fleece. Jason and his crew must overcome incredible obstacles including Talos, a 100-foot bronze giant, the venomous Hydra, a huge creature with the heads of seven snakes, and a spectacular sword battle with an army of seemingly unstoppable skeletons. A wildly fun, action-packed classic for all ages, Jason and the Argonauts still astonishes today, over 60 after its initial release, thanks to the jaw-dropping magic of Ray Harryhausen’s iconic effects. (Dir. by Don Chaffey, 1963, USA/UK, 104 mins., Rated G)
