The bilingual publication is structured in four parts: an introduction by Patrick Mauriès tracing the evolution of Schmitt’s work over the past decade; a portrait of Le Chapitre, his home and workshops in a restored 12th-century farm near Paris, illustrated by photographs from Adrien Dirand and accompanied by a text by Sandra Babeanu; a central section exploring ten years of creations through ten thematic chapters, with commentary by Axelle Corty on his forms, materials, and artistic approach; and an extensive catalogue raisonné of over 700 works, documenting Schmitt’s production since the 1980s and serving as an essential reference for professionals and collectors.

About the Author

Patrick Mauriès is a renowned French writer and publisher. He is the author of over forty books, including novels, essays on literature, art and collecting and notable titles on fashion and design. He has written books on Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Louise de Vilmorin, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Goode and Piero Fornasetti, many published by Thames and Hudson. He is a regular contributor to Vogue, Purple Magazine, l’Officiel, World of Interiors and AD. He lives between Paris and Nice. Journalist and author Axelle Corty writes about art, architecture, decorative arts and design. After starting out at the Gazette de l’Hôtel de Drouot, she has been contributing to Connaissance des Arts for 20 years and writes regularly for AD magazine. She is the author of Féau et Cie, Boiseries du XVIIè siècle à aujourd’hui (Rizzoli 2020) and Jean Touret (Editions de l’Amateur, 2022). She is based in Paris. Alexandra Babeanu comes from a family of artists. Her father is the Romanian sculptor Sandu Babeanu and her mother belongs to a family of collectors. After the birth of her two children, whose father is Eric Schmitt, she became a fashion journalist and worked freelance for publications such as Vogue, Marie-Claire, Jill and Esprit. When they decided to leave Paris and settle in a village near Fontainebleau, she teamed up with Eric Schmitt to create a structure where they harmoniously share administrative and creative responsibilities. David Jaggard is an American-born, Paris-based translator, composer and writer. He has more than 40 years of experience translating journalistic, technical and literary texts for clients including Condé Nast Paris, Rizzoli, Gallimard, Editions Les Arènes, Galerie Clémentine de la Féronnière, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design de Bordeaux, and many others.
