Versailles

The hunting pavilion of Louis XIII was expanded by Louis XIV into one of the largest, most beautiful, and most expensive palaces in the world. Versailles became a center of power, full of intrigue, major political events, scandals, and dangerous liaisons. During the French Revolution, it was almost demolished, and later completely transformed into a museum. Even today, it remains a forum of world history. The First World War ended there in 1919.
