Since 2010, Marcel Baumgartner has worked in his Zurich office on projects with a wide range of tasks and scales, including prolific competition participation. In 2020, Claudia Loewe joined him, co-founding the company Baumgartner Loewe Architekten in 2022. Their design stance is characterized by committed engagement with current building tasks and respect for existing architectural structures. For example, in the case of the extension to Röhrliberg School in Cham, they assumed the historical grid, while carefully selecting materials and colors to ensure an impressive, harmonious synthesis of old and new elements.

From illuminated manuscripts to two fried eggs and a kebab (and all the paintings in-between). What’s so great about Hogarth? Why should we care about an unmade bed? And who on earth is Banksy? Well, this book won’t answer all your questions, but it will tell you everything you need to know, and nothing that you don’t. Featuring 50 of the very best and most interesting British artworks from the dawn of history to the present day, alongside color reproductions and pithy explanations of key movements and terms, this guide tells the story of British art as you’ve never heard it before. The first book in a new series of Opinionated Guides on art movements, mediums and ideas which builds on the success of Hoxton Mini Press Opinionated Guides to London.
This book explores the figure of Ghitta Carell (1899–1972), a Hungarian-born photographer who was naturalized Italian. Ghitta was born into a Jewish family of humble origins; at a very young age she moved to Italy, where she quickly became a very sought-after portrait photographer. Intellectuals, actors, generals, and political leaders posed in her studio in Rome, as well as famous women and members of royalty and the middle class.
Her black-and-white pictures were taken with a view camera: Ghitta crafted her photographs with mastery and delicacy, and thus created luminous and soft images, intervening through subtraction by removing the most superficial layers. This is how she achieved a kind of unmasking, thanks to which she restored not only the face but first and foremost the soul of those photographed. Ghitta Carell died in Haifa, Israel, leaving behind more than 50,000 plates now mostly dispersed.

Andrew Holmes is renowned for his hyper-real colored pencil drawings. His subject matter is the fixed and mobile service infrastructure that sustains the city of Los Angeles. The gleaming trucks, automobiles, and motorcycles that traverse the highways, and the industrial armature of storage tanks, service stations and truck stops to be found beyond the city’s edge are, for Holmes, the greatest artifacts of a society based on oil. Over the past 50 years, he has captured scenes from this uniquely American landscape in painstaking detail. Together they evoke a lost civilization. Gas Tank City presents 100 of Holmes’s Los Angeles drawings, along with commentaries by art historian, Thomas E Crow, architects Mark Fisher and Cedric Price, and Holmes himself.
In the 1960s and ‘70s, Archigram speculated on the nature of architecture in ways that influenced a generation. In an era defined by the space race, the group’s exploration of movable structures and modular systems stretched far beyond known technologies or contemporary realities. Archigram magazine became the platform for exploring and sharing many of these themes. Launched in 1961, the magazine ran for 9 ½ issues until 1974, when Archigram disbanded. Now, after a 50-year pause for thought, Archigram is back.
Edited by Peter Cook, with contributions from Archigram founding members Dennis Crompton, David Greene and Michael Webb, and with inputs from numerous contemporary designers, technologists and critics, Archigram Ten takes a wry backward glance and imagines a bold leap forward. It looks at where architecture is going currently and asks: why? Contributors include: Hitoshi Abe, Odile Decq, Elizabeth Diller, Thom Mayne, and Eric Owen Moss.

Robaldo Morozzo della Rocca (1904–1993) shaped the architectural landscape of Italy – especially Genoa – through changing times. His work is impossible to categorize and, without taking any political stance, expressed itself in a variety of styles between the periods of the monarchy and the republic: from futurism to neoplasticism, and from Fascist rhetoric to experiments with concrete.
This monograph not only reconstructs the past, but also reveals the present-day relevance of Morozzo della Rocca’s approaches. It demonstrates how it is possible to take an autonomous path and simultaneously develop a universal vision of the world through architecture. Presenting his most important works – ranging from villas and palazzi to apartment buildings and his INA Casa projects – this publication traces the story of an architect who was ahead of his time and whose influence is tangible to this day.

In search of a cultural identity, the Dresden-based architect Peter Zirkel has produced materially aware buildings dedicated to a poetic realism since 1995. For example the church in Canitz (2022) is built upon the ruins of its 13th-century predecessor using a sophisticated wooden structure. The Museum Lützen 1632 (2024) exhibits a mass grave that was excavated in 2011, representing a silent place of remembrance, while also fulfilling the demands of a modern place of knowledge and cultural education.

Jinya Zhao: Holding Air, Holding Light explores the sculptural and perceptual practice of artist and researcher Jinya Zhao. Combining blown glass with drawing, installation, and spatial choreography, Zhao’s work occupies a liminal space between fragility and presence, memory and light. Rather than present objects as finished forms, she creates conditions for perception – inviting viewers to pause and inhabit moments of perceptual suspension. “Glass is not what I make, but how I listen to time,” she writes. Integrating theory and practice, Zhao transforms glass into an artistic language that connects memory, perception, and experience. This book features an essay by arts writer Emma Crichton-Miller and a conversation with Dr Xiaoxin Li of the Victoria and Albert Museum. It also includes 50 full-colour images. It is part of the Hurtwood Contemporary Artist Series and is published in collaboration with Taste Contemporary in Geneva.
This book documents the transformation of the Ancien Manège in Geneva, a horse riding hall that was built in the 19th century and converted into a garage in the 1950s. The book brings together texts, photographs, plans, construction details and specifications in both French and English. The publication traces the history of the Manège, the participatory process that led to its transformation into a civic building, the architectural project, the execution of the works and the building’s current use. With graphic design by Studio Mut, it includes a series of conversations curated by Isabel Concheiro and photographic essays by David Grandorge, Andrés Fraga, Didier Jordan and Luis Díaz y Díaz. The book highlights contemporary issues relating to heritage transformation, sustainable development and shared governance. Intended for both professionals and the general public, it offers an in-depth perspective on an exemplary reuse project within a complex urban and historical context.

Applying its broad, internationally-orientated experience, the Kaiserslautern-based practice strives for architectural solutions that serve the concrete everyday reality of their users in a beneficial way. This is clearly evident in the award-winning projects Ökumenischer Kirchenpavillon in Landau (2015), Kolumbarium in the Gelöbniskirche Maria Schutz in Kaiserslautern (2021) and the densification of the village centre of Hütschenhausen (2026).
