Artist Talk: Drawing City and Mountain, Free as the Wind — How Architecture Imagines Our Island

2025 / 07 / 12 Sat. – 14 :20 – 16:20

Event Introduction

British architect Sir Peter Cook creates fractured, dreamlike “City and Mountain” landscapes through drawings and installations, exploring the tension and transformation between urban and natural spaces in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Taiwanese architect Huang Sheng-Yuan gently and meticulously weaves life and landscape together, shaping spaces where people and the environment coexist harmoniously.

Their “encounter” at MoCA Taipei transcends their roles as architects—they meet as creators and observers. Bridging painting and a fluid architectural language, they expand their perception and imagination of Taiwan’s landscape, revealing how architectural thinking can seamlessly shift between nature, the city, and everyday life.

The talk will be moderated by Huang Shan-Shan, Director of Jut Art Museum, who will guide the audience through the worlds of both architects—inviting us to explore Cook’s imaginative paper-based visions and Huang Sheng-Yuan’s architecture, as free as the wind—as they sketch an island landscape that transcends conventional architectural boundaries.
