Join Laura Dowling, former Chief Floral Designer at the White House (2009–2015), for an inspiring and informative presentation on the magic of holiday decorating. As the creative director for all White House florals and décor, Laura was responsible for hundreds of official events—from elegant state dinners and private First Family gatherings to iconic seasonal celebrations like Halloween, the Fourth of July, and, most memorably, Christmas.
At the White House, Christmas was a dazzling affair, featuring dozens of elaborately decorated trees—including the towering 20-foot Blue Room tree—along with exquisite wreaths, garlands, and floral designs that adorned every room. In this special lecture and demonstration of holiday designs, Laura will share stories and behind-the-scenes insights from her White House years, along with her favorite tips, techniques, and design principles for creating festive, sophisticated holiday décor at home.
The talk also includes a look at Laura’s new book, Designing Christmas, and her 2025 holiday installation at Nashville’s Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. A book signing will follow the program.
Due to the anticipated popularity of this program, we will offer two sessions – at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Seating will open 30 minutes prior to each program.
Additionally, attendees and the public are invited to enjoy The Holly Jolly Market featuring pop-up holiday shopping from local vendors from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Jack C. Taylor Visitor Center.
