Vanitas – British Art Fair, UK

Magnificent photographs by Marzena Pogorzaly  capturing the pathos and unexpected beauty of flowers as they begin to die, beautifully produced and printed on fine paper. The works are situated in the tradition of Dutch vanitas still-life painting and will be featured in the British Art Fair. They are introduced by poet and translator George Szirtes.

Marzena Pogorzaly is a photographer of whom little is known. She has previously published a book about icebergs (Ice) and another about heat and colour (Havana de Cuba). Her work can be viewed at www.marzenapogorzaly.comGeorge Szirtes is a British-Hungarian poet and translator. His poetry has won prizes including the Faber Prize, the T. S. Eliot Prize and the King’s Gold Medal for Poetry. His translation has also won prizes, including the Man Booker International.
