BEYOND THE ICON – MARILYN MONROE
A Centennial Tribute by GUESS
April 21 – June 24, 2026 MUDEC Photo Free admission
On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, GUESS returns to MUDEC Photo with a photographic exhibition dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, celebrating the centenary of her birth through an immersive journey across photography, fashion, and visual culture.
Beyond the Icon. MARILYN MONROE – A Centennial Tribute by GUESS traces the evolution and construction of a myth that redefined the canons of femininity through three exceptional perspectives: those of Bernard of Hollywood, Sam Shaw, and Milton H. Greene, capturing the rise of a cinema star, the woman behind the legend, and the making of a timeless icon.
Beyond beauty and cinematic glamour, the project highlights the modernity of a woman who was a true pioneer of her time. Through twenty-nine films and the founding of her own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, the artist challenged the Hollywood system of the era, asserting greater professional autonomy and control over her own image. An independent and charismatic woman that continues to profoundly influence contemporary culture and the representation of women through the values of self-determination and freedom.
Promoted by GUESS, the project is deeply rooted in the brand’s history and celebrates its enduring connection with Marilyn, a muse since the launch of the first pair of jeans dedicated to her, who has become an integral part of the brand’s creative DNA. It also offers an opportunity to rediscover an aesthetic legacy capable of transcending time.
Iconic images from GUESS campaigns, marked by a sensual, bold, and cinematic femininity, find in Marilyn not only an aesthetic reference, but a true visual and cultural matrix. Throughout the years, GUESS has continuously reinterpreted this imagery through its campaigns, keeping it alive and translating it into a contemporary visual language.
On the occasion of the exhibition, this dialogue is renewed with the exclusive preview of the Marilyn Capsule by GUESS: a collection born from this iconic heritage, reworking its aesthetic codes through a contemporary perspective. Balancing heritage and modernity, the capsule demonstrates how the allure of classic Hollywood continues to redefine and inspire the contemporary imagination and the brand’s visual language.
