Industrial Scars – Géopolis, Belgium

15 May — 21 Sep 2025

Current Exhibition | Ecocides. Is the Planet on Borrowed Time?

Ecocide refers to serious, lasting and irreversible damage to the environment caused by human activities.

For this new series of exhibitions, Géopolis, in partnership with the Greens in the European Parliament, gives the floor to five photographers who document, each in their own way, certain ecocides underway around the world:

  • Kyiv-based Brendan Hoffman documents the environmental devastation caused by the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for more than three years.
  • Arkadiusz Podniesiński explores the consequences of the nuclear disasters at Fukushima and Chernobyl.
  • Adriana Loureiro Fernandez highlights the damage caused by an outdated oil industry in Venezuela.
  • Sébastien Van Malleghem looked into PFAS and microbead pollution in Belgium.
  • J. Henry Fair has been photographing the traces left by heavy industry in landscapes for years.

Opening of the exhibition on May 15 at 7 p.m.

Exhibition dates from May 15 to September 21, closed in July and August.
