Museo Morandi – Morandi Museum, Italy
1 Jan — 31 Dec 2030
The Birth of the Museum
The Morandi Museum is the largest and most significant public collection dedicated to Giorgio Morandi, born following a substantial donation from the artist’s sister, Maria Teresa Morandi, along with an important group of works already held by the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna.
The collection currently comprises 250 works (62 paintings, 18 watercolors, 92 drawings, and 78 etchings) and offers a unique opportunity to explore the artist’s artistic journey, explored in every medium and illustrated in every poetic moment and nuance.
From its inauguration ( October 4, 1993 ), the museum was housed in Palazzo d’Accursio, in Piazza Maggiore, until October 27, 2012, when it moved to MAMbo following the earthquakes of that year.
The move to the Ex Forno del Pane
Since November 18, 2012, the museum has reopened to the public in the Ex Forno del Pane, which also houses the MAMbo Collection – Bologna Museum of Modern Art .
The new exhibition project analyzes the themes and periods that have characterized the master’s career.
Since the museum’s inception, the considerable body of works has been gradually expanded by others from private collections, thus largely unknown, generously granted on temporary loan. This has allowed, and continues to allow, a richer and more comprehensive experience for visitors.
