What would you like to let go of?

The Letting Go (2012–2026) is a long-term, performative, and participatory practice developed by Natascha Stellmach at the intersection of visual arts, psychotherapy, somatic practice, and Buddhist tradition. At its core is a bloodline tattoo, a term tattooed without ink, through which participants explore the question, “What would you like to let go of?”

I let art get very close to me.
Art that hurts.
Art as ritual.
Andreas, Cologne

For the first time, this book brings together 130 previously unpublished encounters – documented through selfies and reflections contributed by participants. Interwoven with the artist’s striking photography, the publication presents a practice that defies easy categorization.

Supplemented by excerpts from her practice-oriented research at the University of Melbourne, as well as essays by Sandra Hüller, Kelly Gellatly and Dr. Matthew McArdle, a deeply personal portrait emerges of what it means to face challenges with vulnerability and courage.

I only felt the wound
when the word was written on me.
Visible and legible,
what had been invisible inside me for years.
Selina, Nuremberg

With its invitation to discover “the wonder in our wounds,” The Letting Go is aimed at people who understand art as an encounter, appreciate the experience of rituals, and are interested in the fragile and ongoing work of human existence.

Natascha Stellmach is an Australian artist with German roots. She has lived in her adopted home of Berlin for 22 years. Experience the book launch of a very personal and unusual project!

The event will be held in English.
