The Gori Pannilini Collection
A History of people and prints in Siena between the 18th and 20th centuries
Through its approximately 2000 prints held at the Biblioteca comunale degli Intronati, Siena, published here in their entirety after three years of research, the Gori Pannilini Collection tells an intriguing story of people and prints.
The pieces in the collection, realised by the most important engravers active between the 16th and 18th centuries, as well as the piecing of the collection itself required further investigations and analysis. The reconstruction work shown here is thus intertwined with the personal stories of those who created and preserved the collection, with the historical events of an entire city and its institutions, and with international cultural changes.
This book is the result of a research project funded in 2022 by the Getty Foundation of Los Angeles as part of The Paper Project, the international program aiming at promoting the study and knowledge of graphic arts.
