Munch – Museo Picasso Malaga, Spain

Munch–Picasso (30 October 2026 – 28 February 2027) brings together, for the first time, the work of Edvard Munch (1863–1944) and Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), two pivotal figures in the emergence of modern art. Through more than one hundred paintings, drawings and prints, the exhibition explores the affinities that run through their respective careers, revealing how both artists transformed the language of art by placing emotional experience at the heart of the creative process.

Rather than focusing on questions of direct influence, the exhibition examines the shared themes and concerns that shaped their work: love and desire, illness, death, solitude and existential anxiety. The female figure occupies a central place within this symbolic universe. Admired and desired, women also appear as complex and ambiguous presences, reflecting the emotional and psychological tensions that informed the imagination of both artists.

Another point of convergence lies in modern life and its spaces of sociability. Cafés, cabarets and bohemian circles became places of observation and experimentation where Munch and Picasso forged new ways of representing the modern individual. By bringing their work into dialogue, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the scope of two radically original artistic practices that played a decisive role in redefining modern art and the ways in which we understand the world.
