Tacita Dean, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Henrik Håkansson and Tomás Saraceno return to Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, where they had their studios in the early 2000s. Twenty years later, on the occasion of the museum’s thirtieth anniversary, the five artists meet again and present their works in the group exhibition Next Door.
Tacita Dean and Bruce Nauman are working on a new film that refers to Nauman’s site-specific installation Room with My Soul Left Out, Room That Does Not Care (1984/2010) at the end of the Rieckhallen. Thomas Demand lets pavilions with large-format photographs float through the room. Olafur Eliasson translates audio waves into visual phenomena in which cross-fading circles of light react to a sound composition. Henrik Håkansson’s video installation examines ecological systems by means of a choreography of the flapping of a butterfly’s wings. For the first time in over 15 years, Tomás Saraceno is showing the installation 14 Billions (Working Title) as well as ongoing research on spider webs and how fear of spiders (arachnophobia) becomes spider love (arachnophilia).
