Fifty years ago, in 1969, non-heterosexual residents of Amsterdam and New York took to the streets to campaign for their sexual, social, and legal rights. That year marked the start of the development of gay rights all over the world, which in many countries has now culminated in the introduction of same-sex marriage. Since the 1960s, artists all over the world have regularly taken homosexuality as the subject of their work, in a range of different ways. Queer!?
