Jewelry and utensils on the edge of reason
We are surrounded for a lifetime by objects that we need, use, like and wear every day: from tools and equipment to jewelry and works of art. Their shape, application, material and weight are familiar and known. Without constantly thinking about it, we use them until they eventually end up in the trash or at the bottom of a drawer. Form and function seem to have a self-evident connection, but there is more going on in the world, and so much more is possible. High time to look at all that stuff with fresh eyes. CODA, in collaboration with Ellen Maurer-Zilioli, developed Gone Astray – jewelry and utensils on the edge of reason; an exhibition that brings together the work of 29 artists from home and abroad. With more than 150 objects, the exhibition shows how these artists adapt, expand or even challenge the rules, traditions and clichés. Gone Astray, on display from May 17 to September 22, 2024 in CODA Museum Apeldoorn, plays with the visitor’s expectations in a stimulating way and encourages you to look differently; sometimes with a smile, sometimes with a raised eyebrow. In any case, the known and familiar are being dusted off.
Opening
Gone Astray will be opened on Friday, May 17 at 5:00 PM in CODA.
