Bruno Reichlin ranks among the most eminent architectural theorists of our time. His writing and his work as a designing architect are marked by a deep understanding of how signs and symbols manifest themselves in buildings, as well as a broad frame of references—ranging from literature and film to visual art.

This second volume of Bruno Reichlin’s collected writings brings together 10 pieces that address fundamental themes of 20th-century architecture. In contextualising designs historically and examining them from social, technical, and cultural perspectives, Reichlin always directs his analytical gaze toward the work itself. Function, tectonics, and space as key concepts of architectural practice and debate are thus defined, broken down, and examined through examples by major figures of modern architecture, such as Alberto Sartoris, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frederick Kiesler, Max Bill, the Italian group BBPR, and Carlo Mollino.
