    Full Description

For more than 20 years, Liliane Tomasko has been exploring idiosyncratic landscapes that have evolved from interiors with a narrative character into abstraction. Drawing on glimpses of abandoned beds and the meticulous rendering of textures, her work reveals what lies hidden beneath the surface, opening up a fascinating dialogue with contemporary abstract painting.

Bridge illustrates not only Tomasko’s intense search for the innermost essence of the human being — their emotions, dreams and fears — but their transformation into gestural abstraction.

From her early work through to the most recent Shapeshifter series, the psychological space Tomasko explores remains, in a sense, a no-man’s-land that the artist continually re-enters to further discover its scope. The pictorial space is only ever a detail, a fragment, a passing mirror of existence, a bridge into the concealed cosmos.

    Text in English and German.
